Pakistan vs Australia Third ODI

Two successful high run chases gave Australia a 2-0 lead over Pakistan. Another win will give the visitors a series-winning lead, as the action moves to Abu Dhabi. There is considerable interest elsewhere in the Indian Premier League, but Pakistan and Australia will look to continue their ICC World Cup preparations.

The hosts need a win to stay alive in the series, while Australia will look to continue their hold over the series. It will be another test for Pakistan’s bench strength, which at the moment is looking thin.

Pakistan Preview

The biggest positive for Pakistan from the second ODI is the century by Mohammad Rizwan (115 off 126 balls). Shoaib Malik also chipped in with a fifty, but the failure of their bowlers and concede the highest-ever chase in Sharjah puts their bowling under spotlight.

Interestingly, except for the two individual centuries, Pakistan batsmen have failed to click. Faheem Ashraf returned home after the second ODI and that could open the door for Usman Shinwari or Mohammad Amir.

Pakistan Predicted XI: 1 Imam-ul-Haq 2 Shan Masood 3 Umar Akmal 4 Haris Sohail 5 Shoaib Malik (C) 6 Mohammad Rizwan (WK) 7 Imad Wasim 8 Yasir Shah 9 Usman Shinwari 10 Mohammad Abbas 11 Mohammad Hasnain

Australia Preview

Aaron Finch continued his batting improvement with another century (153* off 143), while Usman Khawaja (88 off 109) continued his consistent scoring. Jhye Richardson’s injury rules him out of the remainder of the series, which is the only blow for the visitors.

The Aussies could be torn between testing their bench strength and winning the series before doing that. Ashton Turner might get a chance and Richardson’s absence opens the door for Kane Richardson.

Australia Predicted XI: 1 Aaron Finch (C) 2 Usman Khawaja 3 Shaun Marsh 4 Ahton Turner 5 Marcus Stoinis 6 Glenn Maxwell 7 Alex Carey (WK) 8 Kane Richardson 9 Nathan Coulter-Nile 10 Adam Zampa 11 Nathan Lyon

Fantasy Players to Watch

Aaron Finch had a lean summer, but picked up form, averaging 97.25 over the last five ODIs. He has three 50+ scores in this period, including his career-best 153* in the second ODI.

Usman Khawaja has been very consistent since the India series, managing fifties at will. The Aussie opener looks a good fantasy pick for your team in his current form.

Shoaib Akmal has 540 runs in 24 ODIs at this venue and is 46 runs from becoming the highest run scorer in Abu Dhabi. Considering his importance to Pakistan’s middle-order, he will be a good fantasy pick.
