It is the blockbuster final of the Indian Premier League 2019 edition as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clash on Sunday in Hyderabad. They are the two most successful franchises in IPL history with three titles each. While this is the fifth final for MI, it would be an eighth final appearance for CSK.
Interestingly, both sides have already met three times this season. And, all the matches were won by MI. The league encounters were won with ease and so was the first qualifier at Chennai to earn MI the final ticket. CSK had to go through the second qualifier for a ticket to Hyderabad.
Mumbai have enjoyed a very good season, peaking at the right time. They made sure there were no back-to-back losses throughout the league phase. Four batsmen have scored more than 300 runs, while all five of their main bowlers have taken at least 11 wickets. Three of their bowlers have also conceded under seven runs an over.
All these augur well for Mumbai, who had a three-day rest coming into this match. With Hardik Pandya doing well in the slog overs, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga excelling with the ball, Mumbai look to have all the bases covered.
Chennai’s support for the senior pros seem to have been clicking at the right moment. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson picked up runs in the semi-final. The duo, together with captain MS Dhoni, will be crucial to lift the spirits of the ‘Yellow Army’.
There are no worries in the bowling department, as Chennai spinners continue to flourish. The wily Imran Tahir, the experienced Harbhajan Singh and the consistent Ravindra Jadeja will once again be at the forefront of things.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Hardik Pandya has been a sensation this season with the way he consistently smashed boundaries. His SR of 193 is second only to Andre Russell this season.
Faf du Plessis has been in cracking form for CSK this season. His calmness has given Chennai good starts and one more could be in the offing.
Imran Tahir has had a great season. It is only fitting that he takes a few more wickets and end up as the ‘Purple Cap’ holder. Time to draft him in your fantasy side!
