What a wonderful Indian Premier League 2019 season we have had! 55 games through and it comes down to the final match of the regular season to find out the fourth and final qualifier for the playoffs. Match #56 at the Wankhede between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will decide who will make it to the final four.
Interestingly, there is enough interest in the result for MI too. They need a win to get into the top-two and considering their positive NRR, MI might even finish top. For KKR, a win will take them through while a loss will send SRH through.
MI are the second most consistent team in the history of IPL, after Chennai. They have confirmed their playoffs spot after their ‘Super Over’ win against SRH. All that matters now is a win to stay in the top-two spots.
The worry for MI is that they haven’t been at their best. Rohit Sharma has struggled, while the bowlers haven’t been regularly among the wickets. Only Quinton de Kock and Jasprit Bumrah remain in the top-10 batsmen and bowlers respectively. Also, there is the little matter of avenging the loss in the reverse fixture.
With SRH failing to beat RCB on Saturday, the equation is simple for KKR. Win and go through to the playoffs. Lose, and SRH will become the first team in IPL to qualify for the playoffs with just 12 points. Either way, KKR have their fate in their own hands.
Thankfully for them, the two consecutive wins have shown that KKR are coming back to form. Shubman Gill’s promotion is working wonders, while Andre Russell continues to be their trump card. Sandeep Warrier has been very good in both the games he played.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Hardik Pandya has been a revelation for MI, with a SR of 197.35. Also, more than 70% of his runs have come through boundaries making him an ideal fantasy pick.
Andre Russell is having a dream campaign, scoring runs at will (510 @ SR 205.64) and picking wickets when needed (11). He remains a must pick in your fantasy team.
Shubman Gill has turned his season around after his promotion as an opener. With a calm head and an ability to read the situation better, Gill is a ‘dark horse pick’ for your side.
