It took all the 56 matches of the regular season in the Indian Premier League 2019 to decide the final four teams. We are now in the playoffs and first up is qualifier #1 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk in Chennai on Tuesday.
Mumbai ended the league season top of the table with nine wins, that included a league double over Chennai. With the winner getting a direct pass to the finals, both sides would want to avoid going to Vizag for the second qualifier. Chennai, who have the same number of wins as Mumbai, qualified second with an inferior run rate.
Mumbai have a 15-11 record over CSK and have had an upper hand in the recent encounters. They have lost only once in their last seven meetings against CSK. With five of their bowlers picking up ten wickets each, there is so much riding on their bowling to take on Chennai.
However, Rohit Sharma’s side will hope to pick up the pieces and improve their batting. Time and again, they have relied on Hardik Pandya to bail them out. Captain Rohit will hope that his top-order (including himself) can come good at the right time.
It ha been CSK’s spinner, who led them to the playoffs. With no batsmen in the top-15 batters of the season, CSK have struggled for batting performances. MS Dhoni has been their best batsman and that tells a lot about their struggles.
Thankfully for Dhoni and co, this game is being played at their home, where they have lost only once this season. Although that loss has come against Mumbai, CSK will look to their spinners to win them the game.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Hardik Pandya has been a revelation for MI, with a SR of 197.35. Also, more than 70% of his runs have come through boundaries making him an ideal fantasy pick.
Imran Tahir is second in the list of wicket takers this season with 21 wickets. Most (12) of those have come at this venue, which suits his bowling perfectly. A definite pick for your fantasy side.
MS Dhoni has been CSK’s best batsman and saviour this season. His 368 runs have all come when Chennai wanted them, which makes him an ideal pick for your side.
