We are in the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2019 and Wednesday will see the first team to be eliminated out of the race. The Eliminator featuring Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will decide who will move ahead to Qualifier II and who will go home.
Vizag will play host for this match and both sides will be keen to extend their stay. DC were the surprise team of the season, winning nine games in the regular season. Only an inferior net run rate prevented them from finishing in the top-two. SRH, on the other hand, have just managed to scrape through on NRR. They are the first side in IPL history to qualify for playoffs with just six wins.
With four wins in their last five matches, Delhi are the ‘form side’ in the tournament. Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant have been contributing consistently for the Capitals, while Shreyas Iyer has been impressive as well.
Delhi have lost their best bowler Kagiso Rabada to an injury, but Ishant Sharma has stepped up the plate. Amit Mishra and Sandeep Lamichhane could be their trump cards on a Vizag track that could support the spinners.
Sunrisers ended the regular season with four losses in five, including two in a row. The departures of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow for international duties have hit them hard. It was a loss of nearly 50% of their runs, and now only Manish Pandey is looking capable of leading them.
SRH bowlers struggled in the early parts of the season, but Rashid Khan and Khaleel Ahmed have led from the front. It is important for SRH to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar contribute with wickets and economy.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Shikhar Dhawan has been a picture of consistency for the Capitals this season. His quick runs at the top are vital to set a strong platform to the side. A good asset to your fantasy side.
Kane Williamson has missed most part of the season due to injuries. With Warner out of the side, Williamson will look to keep the runs coming for SRH.
Amit Mishra is one of the most underrated spinners of the tournament. As the Rajasthan Royals found out (3/17), Mishra can be a handful on a helpful surface.
