No Steve Smith and no Jofra Archer, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have a mountain to climb in their last match of the Indian Premier League 2019 season against Delhi Capitals (DC). This match #53 will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts have one eye on booking their top-two spot, so there won’t be any freebies. For the visitors, they need to win and hope that Sunrisers lose to Royal Challengers and neither Kolkata nor Kings XI win more than one of their remaining two matches. A tough ask, but a tiny flicker of hope still alive.
The change of name and the confidence they placed on the young personnel has certainly worked wonders for the Capitals. However, they would like to win this game and avoid the banana peel of ‘eliminator’. A win at home will certainly boost their top-two chances.
Unfortunately, they are without their spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who has travelled back home. That leaves them 25-wickets short and DC will hope that Chris Morris (13 wickets) will step up. Batting, thankfully, has been well led by Shikhar Dhawan and captain Shreyas Iyer.
Rain reduced their contest against Bangalore to a ‘no result’ and the Royals now have all the running to do. They need to win and hope that the other results fall their way paving an unexpected march into the playoffs.
The likes of Oshane Thomas, Sanju Samson and Varun Aaron have shown promising signs in the recent matches. Shreyas Gopal remains their best bet with the ball, but the Royals will hope for consistency from their players.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Sanju Samson has not been consistent enough, as much as he would have liked. However, the youngster remains Royals’ best bet to keep the flag going. With Smith out of the side, Samson could be your pick for the fantasy side.
Shikhar Dhawan has no such problems with consistency, finding the runs regularly. His ability to give quick starts should make him an ideal pick for your side.
Amit Mishra is a very underrated bowler, who goes below the radar most of the times. The track in Delhi will suit his slow bowling and he could be a dark horse pick for your side.
