Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) is the biggest rivalry of the Indian Premier League. The original glamour tie of the tournament, their matches are dubbed the IPL’s version of ‘El Clasico’. No wonder then that this match #44 of IPL 2019 to be played in Chennai will be eagerly watched.
More so because of the records that are up for grabs. Chennai are yet to lose a home game this season, but the last time they lost here was to Mumbai. CSK have a 44% win record against MI, their lowest among all sides. In addition, MI have won five of the last seven matches and look to ride on that record.
Chennai have eight wins in 16 matches this season and have all but qualified their playoffs’ place. More importantly for them, it is five out of five at home. The worry for MS Dhoni is the lack of runs from the top-order.
Shane Watson did get into form with a marvellous knock, while Suresh Raina is also getting among the runs. With the bowlers led by Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh enjoying the conditions at Chepauk, CSK would love to turn the tables on MI.
Mumbai have had a five-day resting period between matches and are looking to solidify their playoff spot. A win could take them as high as second, but a loss could be tough on them in the tight race to the playoffs.
Rohit Sharma will be worried about the lack of fifties off his bat, although the form of Quinton de Kock and Hardik Pandya is a blessing. With Kieron Pollard also scoring runs for fun, there is the usual Mumbai swagger that is driving their season.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Rahul Chahar has been the surprise find of the season for MI. His nine wickets came at an ER of 6.61. More importantly, he keeps getting important wickets for his side.
Shane Watson is a dangerous player when on form and right now he must be looking to make up for the lost time. Have him as an insurance in your fantasy side!
Imran Tahir has 16 wickets this season at an ER of 6.23 and loves playing at Chennai. The pitch also responds to him better and should give your side healthy points.
