Kolkata Knight Riders will start their Indian Premier League 2020 campaign with a match against Mumbai Indians. This match #5 of the season will be played on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. Mumbai will be keen to get on the board after starting the season with a loss to Chennai Super Kings.
Interestingly, these two sides have one of the most lop-sided head-to-head records. MI have won 19 of the 25 matches against KKR, who have just six wins. However, KKR have won both the matches they played in UAE in 2014. Furthermore, MI have lost each of their five matches in UAE so far – four in 2014 and one this season.
Kolkata Knight Riders Preview
KKR have a ‘Box Office’ squad. With Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine at the top there is enough firepower to warrant a look in. Eoin Morgan is in splendid form and should be looking to continue that in the IPL.
Andre Russell and Narine remain strong picks for your side – almost like ‘must haves’. However, if you are looking for some cheap picks, look at Prasidh Krishna and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. The two young seamers could surprise a few with their wicket-taking abilities.
Mumbai Indians Preview
Mumbai had an off-day against Chennai as their top bowlers came unstuck. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult couldn’t get going but should look to get back into form. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard present good value with their strong six-hitting abilities.
Nathan Coulter-Nile could be looking for a starting XI spot, possibly at the expense of James Pattinson. It depends on his fitness but the Aussie all-rounder could be a good pick if he plays. Quinton de Kock and Saurabh Tiwary may not be top of every one’s list, but warrant a discussion.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Sunil Narine had a SR of 172.46 in the powerplay during IPL 2019. To go with that, in the recent CPL, Narine had taken six wickets at an ER of 4.55.
Andre Russell had a great outing against Mumbai in the last season – a 40-ball 80 and 2 for 25 with the ball.
Quinton de Kock got off to a flyer in the first match, but MI failed to capitalise. He scored the most powerplay runs in IPL 2019 (352) and should be a good pick.
