Fantasy Football: EPL Week 21 Manchester City vs Liverpool Preview

Manchester City vs Liverpool

The blockbuster clash of the English Premier League Week 21 fixtures will see Manchester City play host to Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday. This is not just the top of the table clash, but also one that has the potential of deciding the destination of this season’s trophy. The hosts are seven points behind the league leaders Liverpool before this round. Anything but a win will be catastrophic to their title hopes.

City have lost three times in their last five Premier League matches, including shock reverses at the hands of Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Pep Guardiola has seen his side move out of the top-two during this run. Their last home league match was a loss to Palace (2-3). Should they lose again, it would be back-to-back defeats at home for the first time since February 2016.

Guardiola’s opposite member Jurgen Klopp has transformed the Reds into a title challenger this season. Liverpool remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League (W17, D3) and have won their last nine league matches. With just eight goals conceded, Liverpool have the best defence in the Premier League. Even against a rampant Manchester City side that has scored 54 goals, the Reds start as favourites.

The sides played out a goalless draw at Anfield in October, with Riyad Mahrez missing a penalty for City. Liverpool have lost just one of their last eight matches against City in all competitions and have lost just one of their last four away matches against them.

The biggest worry for the hosts remain the number of injuries and suspensions. Kevin de Bruyne is a doubt as well. For Liverpool, the only injury worries remain Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Sergio Aguero is expected to lead the line for City and has a chance to maintain his excellent record of scoring in all six Premier League home matches against Liverpool.

Roberto Firmino is fresh from scoring a brilliant hat-trick against Arsenal and is in great form ahead of this match.

Mohammed Salah has a good record against City – having scored three and assisted two in their last four matches.
