Fantasy Football: EPL – Everton vs Liverpool Preview

It is derby day in the English Premier League on Saturday when Goodison Park will see Everton host Liverpool in a fierce Merseyside derby. Three points and bragging rights will be on offer for the winner. Everton will have additional context, as it will be 10 years to the day that they have last defeated Liverpool in a Premier League match.

Everton start this round top of the league standings with 12 points from four matches. Champions Liverpool are fifth in the table with nine points from the same number of matches. This is the first Merseyside derby since September 1989 that Everton start the match top of the table.

Everton Preview

Carlo Ancelotti has some selection issues with Mason Holgate injured which may mean a debut for new signing Ben Godfrey. Lucas Digne is doubtful with an injury in the international break, while Seamus Coleman was nursing his hamstring before the break.

All eyes will be on Jordan Pickford who has been making one error after another in the goal. A frank tip would be not to include him in your fantasy side. James Rodriguez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been in cracking form and definitely deserve a place.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp does not have many injury issues, as Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara have recovered from Covid-19 issues. Naby Kieta is unavailable and so is goalkeeper Alisson, so that’s two names not getting into your team sheet.

Liverpool will be looking to bury the ghosts of a 7-2 loss to Aston Villa before the international break. Thankfully for them, Mo Salah remains in strong form. He’s a strong pick for you and so should be Thiago – who can control things in the mid-field for the Reds.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in excellent form for Everton. The young forward has already nine goals in six matches for Everton this season. That includes six goals in four Premier League matches.

James Rodriguez has been a great addition for Everton. The creative mid-fielder has three goals and two assists in his last three Premier League matches.

Mo Salah was the lone spark for Liverpool in that 7-2 loss to Aston Villa scoring a brace. He also has three goals against Leeds on opening matchday.
