After testing India in the initial stages of the 1st Test, West Indies crumbled under pressure. A comfortable 318-run win in North Sound has given India a 1-0 lead. As the teams move to Sabina Park in Jamaica, all eyes will be on the Windies batsmen.
Scores of 222 and 100 tell the story of struggles for the Windies. They were ambushed by excellent Indian pace bowling, but the batting was equally inept. India too have their share of concerns, but look far superior to their hosts.
West Indies Preview
The Windies can look at some bright spots from the first Test for inspiration. Kemar Roach’s bowling was top-class and so was Shannon Gabriel. Roston Chase looked comfortable at the crease till he lasted.
With the series on the line, the Windies will hope that their Test specialists prosper. Kraigg Brathwaite will be under the lens to give good starts. Keemo Paul is back in the squad and set to replace Miguel Cummins. The hard-hitting spin all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall could also come into contention.
Even in the easy win, India have their own set of problems. The openers still look far from settled. Rishabh Pant’s performances are not consistent, both with the bat and the gloves. The calm nature of Hanuma Vihari stood out as a big positive.
Along with that, the Indian bowling unit looks a lot settled. Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have been excellent. There is a chance for off-spinner R Ashwin to be included in the playing XI. If that is the case, Mohammed Shami could miss out.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Ajinkya Rahane has addressed his century drought in the first Test. With the monkey off his back, expect him to be among the runs once again.
Jasprit Bumrah has shown in the first Test why he is such a tough bowler to face. The intelligent seamer could once again be among the wickets.
Shai Hope didn’t do justice to his potential in the first Test. A poor Test puts his returns into perspective, but expect him to bounce back.
