The T20Is were closely fought and India eventually defeated the West Indies 2-1. The focus now shifts to the ODIs for the three-match series. The first match will be played in Chennai on Sunday, but inclement weather remains a hurdle.
India have a great record at home and will look to continue the same. The return of Virat Kohli means there is enough quality to forge ahead. West Indies have started their life under Kieron Pollard well and will look to continue that run.
Shikhar Dhawan’s absence opens the door for KL Rahul’s entry and he will look to make his mark. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury is a concern, although Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar present good options. The return of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is a good sign.
VIrat Kohli loves playing the West Indies and should be a good pick. Rohit Sharma has been bossing ODIs and remains an equally solid pick. Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube can be the left-field choices with their all-round skills. Among the bowlers, the spin duo of Chahal – Kuldeep is an attractive proposition.
West Indies Preview
Pollard and co. gave a good account of themselves in the T20Is. Nearly the same squad is there, which gives them continuity. Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer give them a great chance to contest evenly against the Indians.
Roston Chase presents an interesting fantasy choice, considering his usage as an all-rounder. Sheldon Cotrell could enjoy the conditions, while Hayden Walsh Jr. might be the surprise pick. Jason Holder should get a chance to play, and he might not be a bad pick at all.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Virat Kohli already has the highest number of runs against Windies in ODIs. In his last nine innings against them, Kohli made six 100s and 870 runs at an average of 174.
Shai Hope is one of the best in the Windies squad. Over the last two years, he averaged 60.54 with 6×100 and 10×50 in 41 innings.
KL Rahul has been in excellent form in the T20Is. He had scored two 50s and looked in solid touch. A chance to cement his place could see a big score from him.
