After a stunning collapse in the second ODI, Australia have let England back into the ODI series. Going into the final ODI on Wednesday, the teams are locked 1-1. The series is on the line for the two teams and both have their own reasons to go for it.
England haven’t lost a bilateral ODI series at home since 2015. Ironically, it was Australia who last defeated England at home. Australia have come into this tour having not played for six months. They lost the T20I series 2-1 and another series loss would be tough to stomach.
England managed to come out of the woods in the second ODI to stay alive in the series. First with the bat, when they made 231 after looking as if 200 would be tough. And then, sparking an Australian collapse after they needed 88 off 19 overs with eight wickets in hand. England will be confident of closing the series out as they look to continue the momentum.
Jos Buttler has struggled for runs in the ODIs and is due for a big one. The same goes for Eoin Morgan, who hasn’t really fired. Chris Woakes and Tom Curran have been the surprise performers in the series and could do with a place in your team.
It has been a strange series for Australia who haven’t found their batting comforts. Steven Smith’s presence is still a question mark, while David Warner has struggled all through. Marcus Stoinis hasn’t proved his worth.
Mitchell Marsh has been impressive although lacking that final touch. Glenn Maxwell didn’t deliver the final knockout punch either. Among the bowlers, Josh Hazlewood has been the best of the lot. Adam Zampa has been having a dream series and deserves a chance to be in your side.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Adam Zampa has been in excellent form on this tour. His last three bowling figures on this tour read: 2/34 (T20I), 4/55, and 3/36 in the last ODI. The leggie could be a good fantasy pick.
Chris Woakes has played an all-round hand in the second ODI. With four wickets in the series and 36 crucial runs, Woakes could be up for another good game.
Tom Curran has bowled the most economical spell by an England bowler since 2006 when he delivered 0 for 28 in the second ODI.
