Fantasy Cricket: 2019 ICC World Cup – West Indies vs Pakistan Preview

521

It is just the second match of the 2019 ICC World Cup and we have a clash between two flamboyant sides. Former Champions (1975 & 79) West Indies and Pakistan (1992) will clash at Trent Bridge on Friday.

The Windies and Pakistan have had contrasting fortunes in the warm-up games. Their game against South Africa was washed out. West Indies then made light work of New Zealand with heavy artillery batting in their second warm-up. Pakistan stumbled to a loss against Afghanistan and then saw their game against Bangladesh washed off.

West Indies Preview

A tri-series in Ireland, also involving Bangladesh, was West Indies’ first port of call in the British Isles. However, losses to Bangladesh have cast a shadow on their preparations. Of course, they were missing quite a few regulars.

That could make a big difference, with the likes of Shai Hope, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite all set to take the tournament by a storm. Like they have shown against New Zealand in the practice game, West Indies are a tough side to bowl at.

Pakistan Preview

The ‘Green Caps’ have lost their last ten completed ODIs and are looking dire for results. They did struggle even in the practice game against Afghanistan. Bowling is usually their strength, but they have failed to bowl their opponents out in 11 straight games now.

Still, Pakistan are a very dangerous side with a number of match winners. Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Wahab Riaz can win a match on their own. In addition, Pakistan are usually known to bounce back into reckoning when the chips are down.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Andre Russell can be very destructive lower down the order. Be it his SR of above 200 in the IPL or the knock of 54 off 25 balls against New Zealand, Russell is a great basher.

Shai Hope is at the top of his game at the moment. Four 100s and three 50s in his last 11 ODIs, scoring 839 runs at an average of 93.22, Hope has to be your fantasy pick.

Babar Azam is Pakistan’s most composite batsman. With 610 runs in his last 12 bats, that included four 50s and one century, Azam is a good fantasy pick.
