It is not going to be a match that will entice the fans, as far as the pre-match context goes. Sri Lanka have been knocked out of the top-four race after England beat India. West Indies are already out of contention. This means the match #39 at Chester-le-Street on Monday is a dead rubber.

It has been an up and down tournament for both the teams. Sri Lanka’s moment in the tournament came when they defeated England. Other than that, it has been a very poor outing for them. West Indies are playing for pride as well.

Sri Lanka Preview

Sri Lanka’s batting looks out of sync for the demands of ODI cricket. Barring Kusal Perera, none in the top-order looks set to take the bowlers on. Avishka Fernando’s arrival to the playing XI has brought a refreshing change. Regardless, Sri Lanka look down on the count with the bat.

Bowling too has been largely dependent on one man – Lasith Malinga. The 35-year-old veteran has been very good, but is getting scant support. WIth no scores to defend, the bowlers struggled for impact.

West Indies Preview

The West Indies’ batting has also struggled to make a mark. There have been flashes of brilliance from Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope. However, inconsistent batting has been their issue.

The bowling too has oscillated between good and poor for the Windies. They have struggled to bowl on pitches that had little for their tall seamers. The lack of a proper spinner has hit them hard as well. Spin could come into play on a drier pitch in Durham, which might not work to their bowlers’ liking.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Avishka Fernando has been the spark Sri Lanka missed at the top. He needs to convert those attractive 30s into a big one, though.

Shimron Hetmyer hasn’t really shown the World Cup why he is one of the best. The youngster can be dangerous when he gets going and that makes him a good pick.

Sheldon Cottrell is not just impressing with his wickets, but also with his fielding. He is the best fielder in the tournament and that can be good for your fantasy side.
