Fantasy Cricket: 2019 ICC World Cup – South Africa vs Afghanistan Preview

Strange enough, but after four matches of the 2019 World Cup, South Africa are without a win. So are Afghanistan after their own three matches. Cardiff on Sunday will host the match #21 of this edition as the two winless sides clash.

The Proteas are in that zone where they need to win every game and hope for help elsewhere. For Afghanistan, it is a case of picking up a win and getting off the bottom of the table. While the attention shifts to the top-half of the table, South Africa will hope for change of fortunes.

South Africa Preview

Interestingly, Cardiff is the place where South Africa have last won a match. Albeit in a practice match, the Proteas have happy memories of the location. This is the first-ever ODI fixture between these two sides, and South Africa hope to make their experience count.

The time gap between matches has given a chance for them to regroup. Their injured pacer Lungi Ngidi could get fit ahead of the game. Regardless, South Africa will look at their seniors to stand up and be counted.

Afghanistan Preview

The spirited Afghans have come up short in all three of their games. Although they have given glimpses of their fighting potential, Afghanistan do not look capable of a surprise win. Their batting looks far from making a difference to this clash.

Another worry for Afghanistan is the fitness of Rashid Khan. The star spinner had failed two concussion tests against New Zealand. However, he has apparently recovered enough to play in this fixture.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Rassie van der Dussen has already made consistency his middle name in the tournament. His runs could be crucial once again for the Proteas.

Chris Morris has been impressive against India with his all-round ability. His returns could once again put him on top of the fantasy charts.

Hashmatullah Shahidi has been the lone success factor for Afghanistan. His ability to soak up the pressure and be consistent makes him a good fantasy pick.
