Fantasy Cricket: 2019 ICC World Cup – England vs Sri Lanka Preview

After flooding Manchester with a record of sixes, England will look to topple Sri Lanka and get closer to the semis. This match #27 will be played at Headingley, Leeds on Friday for its first match of the 2019 ICC World Cup.

England have won four of their five matches so far, and all of them convincingly. Injuries continue to hurt them. For Sri Lanka, just four points in five matches mean they have to win all their remaining matches. Not so easy for a side that has been struggling all through the summer!

England Preview

The hosts have been on a roll all through the tournament. They have posted the two highest totals of the tournament and have four of the ten centurions. In addition, they have two of the best fast bowlers in their ranks – Jofra Archer and Mark Wood.

England have not lost an ODI at Headingley since 2011. Although that loss came against Sri Lanka, it would be fair to say an upset is not on the cards. Another two points would almost seal their knockout place.

Sri Lanka Preview

The Islanders are clutching to straws in staying alive in this tournament. Sri Lanka have their destiny in their own hands, but winning all the matches could be tough for them. A middle-order that is struggling to stay afloat remains their worry.

Even the bowling attack looks shoddy. Lasith Malinga still holds the key to their success, while others remain inconsistent. Upsets are part of cricket, but if Sri Lanka defeat England, it would be the mother of all upsets.

Fantasy Players to Watch

Joe Root has two 50s and two 100s this tournament and has also chipped in with two wickets. One of the most consistent and a must-have in your fantasy side.

Dimuth Karunaratne has shown against Australia that he can be their leader with the bat. His innings of 97 is worth a place in your side.

Jonny Bairstow has 186 runs in his last three innings. The absence of Roy should bring the best out of the opener and is a smart fantasy pick.
