England started their ICC World Cup campaign with a win that underlined their tournament favourite status. They now face a Pakistan side struggling to find a way past their recent struggles in match # 6 of the tournament. Nottingham Bridge will host this match on Tuesday.
England’s 104-run win in the tournament opener against South Africa was comprehensive. Highlighted by strong all-round performances, England looked well set in their ways. Pakistan, on the other hand, stumbled to a seven-wicket loss to West Indies. The humiliating loss condemned Pakistan to the bottom of the points table with -5.802 net run rate.
Four batsmen scored half centuries for England in the opening match, a true symbol of their batting strength. Jonny Bairstow’s golden duck was quickly erased from memory. Eoin Morgan’s men get ready for more runs, this time on the same pitch that produced a world record score.
Jofra Archer’s addition to the England side has given them a lot of muscle. Like he showed against South Africa, Archer is handful with his fiery spells. Same is the case with all-rounder Ben Stokes, who stormed to life with a great all-round display.
Pakistan were bounced out by West Indies in their first match, as they folded out for just 105. It was their second-worst World Cup score. With most batsmen looking unsettled at the pace and bounce on offer, Pakistan have bigger worries ahead.
Even with the ball, they looked less sharper than their counterparts. Confidence in the camp is certainly at an all-time low. However, considering their history at performing when the chips are down, Pakistan can’t be ruled out.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Jason Roy continues to enjoy the form of his life. His strong hitting makes him a good pick for your side. With just eight runs to go for his 3, 000 ODI runs milestone, Roy looks destined for a big score.
Ben Stokes showcased his worth with an all-round display against South Africa. With the pitch set to assist seamers, his role as a fourth pacer could be more than handy.
Babar Azam was the one of the saving graces for Pakistan in the game against Windies. With his tight technique, Azam could be the guiding light for them.
There is every chance that England might swap Liam Plunkett for Mark Wood.
