There can’t be anything better than this. One place up for grabs, three teams in contention and two of those facing each other. When England and New Zealand play in the match #41 of the 2019 ICC World Cup at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, there’s everything on the line.
Australia and India have already booked their progress. England have ten points and New Zealand 11, before this last game for both teams. The winner will take the third semis spot, while the loser will anxiously wait for the result of Pakistan vs Bangladesh on Friday.
The win over India on Sunday has brought the best out of Sunday. Their batting is back to being their aggressive best. Bowlers too are enjoying their responsibilities. Jason Roy’s return has definitely given them the boost and balance.
England will, however, be wary of being complacent. A loss will knock them out and will be a disaster for the pre-tournament favourites. However, the hosts start this game with the best frame of mind.
New Zealand Preview
The Kiwis started the tournament like a team in a hurry. However, they have lost steam in the recent matches and suddenly find themselves at the crossroads. Consecutive losses to Pakistan and Australia have put them in a tight spot.
Over-dependence on captain Kane Williamson is pegging the Kiwis back. Ross Taylor’s drip in form is hurting them as well. Lockie Ferguson has enjoyed peppering the batsmen with short stuff. The lack of a wicket-taking spinner has also been putting New Zealand in the dock.
Fantasy Players to Watch
Jason Roy has been a great presence for England. His comeback against India was just the tonic England needed to get into the groove. He will once again look to get among the runs.
Joe Root has been the silent hero for England. His ability to hold forte and score almost at a run-a-ball is exceptional. Root’s runs could be a gateway to your fantasy side.
Kane Williamson has been the torchbearer for New Zealand this season. Although he is under pressure to deliver, the Kiwi captain should deliver.
