Australia and West Indies meet in match #10 of the ICC World Cup in Trent Bridge with an eye on a second win. Both sides have picked up wins in their first matches and another will give them early advantage.
The Aussies were clinical in their seven-wicket win over Afghanistan. All the bowlers chipped while the top-order got into batting form. For the West Indies, their seven-wicket win over Pakistan was due to aggressive fast bowling.
The five-time Champions will be happy that they have struck all the right chords so far. Captain Aaron Finch is looking aggressive at the top. David Warner is hungry for runs, while the bowling looks more settled than any other side.
One worry for Australia could be their slow batting through the middle overs. If they want to make the most of solid starts, the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis should get more overs to bat.
West Indies Preview
West Indies showed against Pakistan that they are still a force to reckon with. On a pitch that had something for the pace bowlers, they exploited the short ball to full extent. The target was equally quickly dispatched meaning they have a high NRR coming into this match.
The problem for the Windies is their consistency. If they can bring the same level of intensity, Australia will be in trouble. However, they were brushed aside easily by Australia in the practice match. If it is the same Windies sde that will take the field then the Kangaroos will feel positive.
Fantasy Players to Watch
David Warner has shown his gritty side against Afghanistan, leading Australia with an unbeaten knock. He will be expected to continue his run glut.
Andre Russell has earned rave reviews for his sixes and SRs in excess of 200. It is his bowling, though, that won them the game against Pakistan. The all-rounder will be crucial for West Indies’ hopes.
Chris Gayle has hit an average of four sixes an ODI innings since the end of 2015 WC. The ‘Universe Boss’ will look to continue in the same vein of form.
