English Premier League (EPL)

English Premier League

The English Premier League (EPL) is widely regarded as the premier football competition in the world. Based in England, the game has been running since its debut season in 1888-89. In 1992-93 the competition moved into the current Premier League system, from which it has enjoyed immense growth and popularity.

Up until that debut season, the competition was divided into divisions – first division being the elite clubs, second division being the next best sides, then third and fourth divisions. When Premier League began, it replaced First Division as the top tier. The second tier was initially renamed First Division before switching to The Championship, while the third and fourth are known as League One and League Two respectively.

Each season runs for 8 months and sees 380 games played between the 20 teams. There is no finals system, meaning a team has to be at the very top of the ladder after those 380 games have been played to be deemed the champion.

Many of the World’s greatest players take part in the English Premier League every year. In the 2017-18 season, Egypt’s Mohamed Saleh was the league’s top goal scorer while Spain’s David de Gea was the best goal keeper.

This wide array of well-known players from all around the globe, as well as the huge number of games played, makes English Premier League soccer an obvious and great sport for daily fantasy sports. There are many sites offering great contests in EPL, most notably DraftKings – considered the leading DFS site in the world.
