Sydney Thunder vs Hobart Hurricanes

We are at the door steps of the semi-finals of the Big Bash League 2018/19 (BBL08) and there’s a lot riding on match #55 to be played at the Manuka Oval on Saturday. This is the last game for both the sides and hosts Sydney Thunder have everything to play for than the visitors Hobart Hurricanes.

The Thunder (W5, L7) need a win and win by a massive run-rate. Almost like what Brisbane Heat have done to the Melbourne Stars in match #53. They also need other results go their way. For the Hurricanes (W10, L3), a place in the semi-finals and a chance to host is already sealed.

Sydney Thunder Preview

The Thunder would now be wondering what it would have been if their game at The Gabba was not abandoned. Only Callum Ferguson enjoyed a good season with the bat, and the Thunder need the others to chip in.

Thankfully, the Test stars Pat Cummins, Usman Khawaja and Kurtis Patterson will be playing this match. All three have been in good form in the Test whites and it is time to transform the Thunder fortunes.

Sydney Thunder Predicted XI: 1 Shane Watson 2 Usman Khawaja 3 Callum Ferguson 4 Anton Devcich 5 Matt Gilkes (WK) 6 Daniel Sams 7 Chris Green 8 Pat Cummins 9 Chris Jordan 10 Fawad Ahmed 11 Gurinder Sandhu

Hobart Hurricanes Preview

The Hurricanes have lost just three matches this season. However, two of those three losses have come in their last four matches. Still, the form of Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short at the top of the order is a big positive.

The Hurricanes have already booked a home final and all that remains is to iron out the chinks. James Faulkner is rested as a precaution, while the latest overseas spinner Qais Ahmed gets another chance to settle down.

Hobart Hurricanes Predicted XI: 1 Matthew Wade (WK) 2 D’Arcy Short 3 Caleb Jewell 4 Ben McDermott 5 George Bailey 6 Simon Milenko 7 David Moody 8 Clive Rose 9 Jofra Archer 10 Qais Ahmed 11 Tom Rogers

Fantasy Players to Watch

Matthew Wade is having a great BBL08. He has 545 runs at an average of 45.41 and a SR of 147.29. With another chance at the top of the order, back him to bag fantasy points for your side.

Usman Khawaja loves Big Bash and vice-versa. The southpaw has 956 runs in the BBL at an average of 50.32. That is almost Bradmanesque and deserves a place in your fantasy XI.

Pat Cummins is one of the best in the business, whatever may be the format. His lone chance in BBL08 comes in the final game, so expect him to make a blast.
