Big Bash League (BBL08) Fantasy Tips: Renegades vs Thunder Preview

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder

This is a match that could decide the fortunes in the Big Bash League 2018/19 (BBL08) season. As the Melbourne Renegades take on Sydney Thunder in match #46 at the Marvel Stadium, it is time to strap your belts.

The Renegades (W7, L5) have picked up form at the right moment and are sitting cosy at third in the points tally. The Thunder (W5, L5, NR1) are just outside the top-four and can make it up the table with a win.

Melbourne Renegades Preview

The Renegades come into this game off a 78-run win over the Perth Scorchers. This hasn’t been a consistent season for them, but the Renegades are now close to the playoffs. They won the reverse fixture in BBL08 by 12-runs a week ago.

Aaron Finch coming back into the squad is a great sign for the Renegades. However, it is the form of Sam Harper (269 runs, SR 135.17) that’s driving the hosts. Kane Richardson (19 wickets) and Cameron Boyce (ER 6.23) are some other names that warrant a look.

Melbourne Renegades Predicted XI: 1 Aaron Finch 2 Mackenzie Harvey 3 Sam Harper (WK) 4 Mohammad Nabi 5 Tom Cooper 6 Beau Webster 7 Daniel Christian 8 Cameron Boyce 9 Chris Tremain 10 Kane Richardson 11 Harry Gurney

Sydney Thunder Preview

The Thunder have a bit of an injury crisis, as their first two choices of ‘keepers Jay Lenton and Matt Gilkes are out of contention. That puts the young Baxter Holt in line to make a debut.

The one making waves, though, is Gurinder Sandhu who is now the club’s leading wicket taker with 39 scalps. They now have a chance to make it to the top-four and that should bring the best out of the likes of Shane Watson and Callum Ferguson.

Sydney Thunder Predicted XI: 1 Shane Watson 2 Anton Devcich 3 Callum Ferguson 4 Chris Green 5 Baxter Holt (WK) 6 Jason Sangha 7 Daniel Sams 8 Chris Jordan 9 Gurinder Sandhu 10 Fawad Ahmed 11 Nathan McAndrew

Fantasy Players to Watch

Callum Ferguson has scores of 52 and 113* in his last two innings. The stroke-player can be an exciting pick for your fantasy side and can pay back with runs!

Kane Richardson has made it a point to keep taking wickets every game. Having him in your fantasy side is almost a given.

Aaron Finch may be struggling in the Test series, but his T20 form is supreme. Coming at the top of the order, he gets a lot of overs to bat too – a good chance to have him in your fantasy side.
