The wait is over and we have the Big Bash League (BBL) 2018 season all set to start. BBL08 is bigger and better, as the eight teams get ready to face each other home and away. The tournament opener will be played at The Gabba on Wednesday between Brisbane Heat and defending Champions Adelaide Strikers.
Brisbane Heat Preview
It is Chris Lynn at the helm for the Heat, as they look to make a grade up from their seventh-place finish last season. With Brendon McCullum at the top together with Lynn, Heat have the most destructive opening pair when on song.
The presence of exciting young batsman Max Bryant and the Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman is something to keep an eye on. The recruitment of James Pattinson and the presence of Mitchell Swepson gives them depth in bowling resources.
Brisbane Heat Predicted XI: 1 Brendon McCullum 2 Chris Lynn 3 Max Bryant 4 Joe Burns 5 James Peirson (WK) 6 Ben Cutting 7 James Pattinson 8 Mark Steketee 9 Mitchell Swepson 10 Brendan Doggett 11 Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Adelaide Strikers Preview
Skipper Travis Head will miss out for the defending Champions, as he is away on Test duty. Peter Siddle, however, joins the squad and will be a great value to the side. It is their bowling attack that won them the title last season and the likes of Siddle, Billy Stanlake and Michael Neser will once again be at the forefront.
However, the apple on the cherry is the Afghan wrist spinner Rashid Khan, who led the bowling charts last season. Colin Ingram will be aided by Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald at the top, but their middle-order batting looks thin.
Adelaide Strikers Predicted XI: 1 Alex Carey (WK) 2 Jake Weatherald 3 Colin Ingram 4 Jono Wells 5 Jake Lehmann 6 Matt Short 7 Michael Neser 8 Rashid Khan 9 Peter Siddle 10 Billy Stanlake 11 Ben Laughlin
